My Tips to Raising Your Energy Levels

This is the 5th top issue raised from my survey of mothers that I promised to address. Your mental, emotional and physical well being.

When you bring your newborn home from the hospital, every ounce of energy you have is required to look after this little, dependent bundle. Not only are you loving, nurturing and caring for your little one physically, but mentally and emotionally too. And it's exhausting. It's a working 24 hour day. Nothing could have prepared me for the level of fatigue I experienced. And because I was so tired, everything felt like it was a battle and it was difficult to cherish what was actually a special time in my life.

Since then I have undertaken training as a personal coach and have learnt a lot about myself. So what could I have done differently to ease the anxiety and pressure?

Next time I will:

  • leave the housework (I hated it when someone would say 'it'll always be there' because that just added to the stress - I couldn't relax knowing there was a mountain of laundry to be done! Next time I will hire a cleaner for the first 3 months)
  • rest when the baby sleeps
  • take more time out for myself (just getting to file my nails or have a bubble bath - it's the small things that count)
  • not have so many visitors (or at least have them make ME a cup of tea!)

Just four little changes will make a huge impact on how I am feeling and my energy levels next time around.

What could you do to make a difference to how you are feeling?

Who could you enlist to help/support you?

When will you start putting these options into actions?

If you have any tips, please post them as a comment to help other mothers.
